daisychainrpg*
Daisychain was a game set in modern New York City, specifically the island of Manhattan after it was attacked from a giant monster and several smaller monsters. It was based on the Cloverfield movie to give you an indication of the type of monsters. Riza and others like her were brought into the city as part of an experiment whose overall goal was to attempt making more of these monsters to send out into the multiverse. Characters didn't find this out until much later after several monster encounters of their own. Riza and the others were eventually abducted and placed on several ships in isolation -- injected with the toxins that would eventually cause the change. However, through some teamwork they were able to reverse the blocks on their abilities and turn the tides against their captors. They found the portal device that had brought them here and eventually got it working so they could return home as well.
-Harry Dresden: Probably her most important CR in the game. She met Harry almost as soon as she arrived in the monster-torn version of NYC. She helped him and he helped her and they partnered up fairly quickly forming a bond forged by survival and respect. They survived several encounters with the monster and even had a building dropped on them at one point. Riza grew to trust Harry with her life and loved him as well. Despite the terrible situation, they considered themselves dating in the game. The two of them helped establish one of the residences that people stayed in and kept an eye on a small group of people (some of whom I'll discuss later). During the last week they were together in New York, Riza thought she might be pregnant, but upon returning to her world she found that it had been a false alarm. She has, unfortunately, not seen Harry since, perhaps due to the fact travel between dimensions is pretty difficult.
-Sora: Although he's a kid, she learned to appreciate his skills in fighting but, more importantly, his ability to heal. When a monster bite could mean sickness, death, or possibly turning IN to a monster -- Sora's ability to heal with his keyblade were invaluable. Riza appreciated his willingness to throw himself into danger, even if he was a little naive at times.
-Karrin Murphy: A friend of Harry's quickly became a friend of her's. The two women had a lot in common and bonded over their shared concern for civillians and protecting people who couldn't protect themselves. Karrin vanished early on in the events, but her foundational friendship did a lot to cement Riza's relationship with Harry.
-Rosette Christopher: One of the residents at the Strand where she and Harry stayed. She was young but knew how to use a gun, so Riza liked her for that. The two had a fondness for making sure Harry didn't get himself killed on a regular basis. Mostly they were close because she lived in the same building though.
-Wolf & Giselle: I'm putting these two together because they became a major couple that lived in the Strand. Giselle was very chipper and innocent, but could make food like you wouldn't believe. Meanwhile, Wolf was a bit of a wild-man with a kind heart and strong friendship with Harry. He would fiercely protect Giselle and more than once this couple would try to convince Harry and Riza to enjoy their time together a little more -- monster infested city or not.
Riza had CR with a lot of other characters in the game, too many to really list. The game itself, however, forced her to work with people of all kinds towards the common goal of survival, solving the mystery of how they got there, what this giant monster was doing, and how to return home.
PERSONALITY OVERVIEW
When first encountering Riza Hawkeye most people think stern, quiet, and disciplined. They would not be wrong. Riza is a soldier and has been for a long time. While she was timid and shy as a teenager, her time in the military molded her into a disciplined woman who could stand her ground against the toughest of opponents. She is exceptionally rational, perhaps a holdover from her own father who was a scientist and alchemist. She doesn't suffer fools and will solve a problem with a calm approach and try not to jump to conclusions. This has probably helped her as a sniper since she needs to keep a cool head and a keen eye on any situation.
While she maintains a professional aura most of the time, those that get to know her well will see that she has a softer, more compassionate side to her. This comes through especially when she interacts with younger characters and animals -- perhaps wanting to protect their innocence since that was something she lost a long time ago. Still, even while kindhearted, Riza maintains a level of formality even while in private. It could be due to the fact that she had so few friends as a child or because as a sniper she had to maintain her distance -- both literally and figuratively. Whatever the case, some people can mistake Riza as being cold, but she's honestly got a sense of humor and warmth that will only appear in private and with her closest friends. She is very subtle about her affections and some might say the very personification of "tough love" -- seen in her training her dog Black Hayate with a firm hand or in her interactions with Col. Roy Mustang. It should also be noted that while she is cool and calm most of the time she has been known to have a "breaking point" where she will actually show her anger and frustration with an individual. Usually this will be Roy, but after her time in New York she also ended up yelling at Harry a lot as well.
Riza takes her job as a soldier and sniper very seriously -- never drawing her weapon unless she means to use it. She sees her gun as a tool she can use to protect the people she cares about. Riza does not mind getting her hands bloody and sacrificing her own happiness if it means that the people she loves can live another day. She has been shown to be very in control of her emotions -- hardly ever giving in to despair or even anger. Instead she remains calm and will only snap if it's a very desperate situation, like thinking the person she loves is dead. She carries a lot of burdens from her time in the war and realizes that those deaths' are her responsibility alone.
PERSONALITY QUESTIONS
What skills does your character bring to the situation?:
Riza is a trained soldier and specifically a weapon's specialist. She is one of the best snipers and also extremely skilled in close-range gun fighting. This doesn't just mean she knows her way around a rifle, but also she has keen eyes and a steady hand. Riza has infinite patience as well and all three of these traits would lend themselves well to hunting animals, fishing, or observing others for information. She is also an exceptional dog trainer, if people are getting puppies in boxes then she would probably be the person to take them and actually make them more than just extra mouths to feed. She also knows a thing or two about various codes and how to use them -- being subversive is in her nature and this would come in handy for communication among the village without other people being the wiser. Riza's time in New York City has also exposed her to various types of magic, technology, and to be super paranoid about being randomly transported to another world. Her background in this area would help inform what other characters might expect and she could help devise tactics and strategies to utilize -- though the situation might also end up being very different. Riza has also demonstrated sharp instincts both on and off the battle field. She is able to quickly assess a situation and how dangerous it might be -- a skill that could mean the difference between life and death around here. She's also familiar with codes and recognizing patterns. She and Roy created a code for communicating information in sight of others and she also understands morse code as well.
Explain how your character would react to the following:
Discovering that their memories may have been tampered with:
It would honestly depend on the memories and how drastically they change her personality. Either way she'd probably feel a sense of unease or dread. Her memories have shaped who she is -- her service in Ishval and her relationship with Roy. If she lost her memories of the war she would probably still be quiet but a little more open. She certainly would lose that "eyes of a killer" that people have commented on. If she loses memories of Roy that would be devastating. Roy is a big part of her life and she can hardly imagine a life without him now. However, she has survived without him before so she'd probably try to fill that void like she did before.
If her memories of her time in New York were tampered with she would probably start thinking that whole experience was just a PTSD induced nightmare. She'd certainly feel an emptiness where the loss of Harry is concerned though -- after all he became about as important to her as Roy.
Having to do physical labor to survive & Having to share resources with others:
Physical labor wouldn't be a problem for her. She's not necessarily used to it, but she would do it for the good of everyone. She would help where she can and probably even end up pushing herself further than necessary. She's not exactly used to this kind of physical labor, even if she IS physically fit. After all, she's a soldier and has been through some rough fights, however her usual work is in an office-type setting. It's certainly a different kind of physical activity and would require her to get in the routine of it.
As for sharing resources, Riza is no stranger to that after her experiences in NYC or even Ishval. Whether it's a desert battlefield or a monster-torn city short on supplies, Riza knows how to survive on minimal food and scraps. She knows that to get through situations like this that sharing would be required. She probably also has some experience with rationing which might help others stretch a meal.
Being unable to leave the area:
Well Riza is certainly used to this one -- though Manhattan provided a lot more space than the valley will probably offer. Riza would be annoyed that she's point in this kind of enclosed environment again -- though on the bright side she doesn't have to worry about monsters trying to bite her and turn her into a giant monster as well. That will certainly be a relief. She will probably do her best to, once again, help solve the situation. She'll figure she and the others did it once so they should be able to do it again. They may be a different group, but they have just as much of a chance in her eyes. Riza isn't the type to give up if she sees there is a way to move on. She has a purpose in life and so that keeps her moving forward. It's true that her objective back home has been finished, but she and Roy certainly have a lot to do to fix their country and so that will motivate her to keep living and find a way out of this area. She can get pretty focused if the task calls for it, so she's certainly going to be single-minded about that one.
Doing without modern conveniences and technology and/or being around tech more advanced than they're used to:
Riza is from a world that resembles a time slightly after the Edwardian era, but with the added bonus of having things like automail and alchemy exist. It makes for a slightly more advanced society. However, Riza has now experienced a society far more advanced by visiting New York City circa 2008. While the city had been torn apart by a monster attack, many of the modern conveniences still functioned. Those two backgrounds combined will mean adjusting to this village will be difficult but not impossible. Riza was not an alchemist herself, so it's not like she relied on those powers. She lived in a city though, so she's more familiar with that sort of living than a small town or farm community as this one is shaping into. Riza will adjust however and not complain because she is not the type to gripe about harsh living conditions.
Being separated, possibly permanently, from loved ones and their previous life, including loss of powers, if applicable:
Riza will find it very frustrating and perhaps resigned that she is to be pulled in to situations like this. She had gotten used to her life in New York, almost adapting to having to fight monsters and live in fear of an attack on a regular basis before that, too, was taken from her and she returned to her normal home. Being brought here will be much like when she was originally taken to New York. She won't accept that she can't return home and will be stubborn enough to continually look for a way back. She will at least have the excuse this time of having experienced this sort of thing before. If she managed to get home once before, why shouldn't the same be true now? It will be a very vicious cycle of hope and despair -- sometimes relying on her previous experiences and not giving up on the idea of returning home but on the other hand getting frustrated when not enough clues present themselves.

The sound of a roar echoes through her head, sometimes shifting in pitch to a human scream but just as loud. The ground shakes violently and Riza tries to run, but her legs get tangled and she pitches forward. The roar is louder now and she feels claws reaching for her in the dark. Riza rolls over onto her back, grasping for a weapon but there's nothing. She feels something snap at her and she screams.
Riza jerks awake in bed, the covers tangled around her feet. The room is pitch black and for a moment her dream bleeds over into reality: red eyes glowing on the walls, small monsters or giant insects scramble in the corners waiting for a bite of her flesh, and the ground shakes beneath her. Riza takes several shaky breaths, forcing the nightmare to go away and eventually the images disappear but the ground still shakes around her. Riza manages to get out of the bed this time, not sure any more if her legs are shaking or the room. She focuses on a nearby lamp and sees that it is indeed shaking.
"No. Not here," she mutters, moving to the window. They'll be flattened at this rate, there isn't protection here like there was in that city. Riza pulls back the curtain but there is nothing out there. So that means...it's not the monster. Then why is the ground shaking? An earthquake? The shaking continues, violently, and knocks her lamp over onto the floor. She grabs a wall and moves for the doorway -- somewhere safe. She's fully awake now and pushing back on the nightmares and fears still drifting in her subconscious. Riza drops at the doorway, curling up and covering her head. She continues taking deep breaths -- remain calm. She tells herself that as a mantra and until she believes it. Eventually the earthquake stops and Riza's own shaking stops as well.
"Just an earthquake. And it was just a nightmare. You're fine," Riza tells herself. Harry isn't here to reassure her. The Colonel isn't here for her to focus on. She doesn't even have Black Hayate to lick her palm and bring her comfort in the dark room. Riza isn't used to being alone like this and it's starting to weigh on her. She sighs, swallowing the urge to sob, "I just want some peace? After all this time. Is that so much to ask?" While on the one hand she hates that she's alone, but on the other hand she's glad the house is empty so no one can witness this moment of weakness.
Riza takes a few moments to compose herself, her gaze hardening and she pushes herself up and back onto her feet. "I need to check on the others. I can't be the only one that earthquake woke up," Riza mutters, pulling back her hair with a hair tie. She crosses to the door and moves with purpose now. She can't just hide in the dark and cry. There's too much to do around here after all and this will give her something to focus on.
